Kava Root Extract 100:1 (Piper methysticum)
$16.95 – $345.45
Description
Note: 100:1 means it takes 20kg of root to produce 1kg of extract.
These herbal extracts are ideal for adding to herbal teas, or other beverages, and can also be added to foods. When calculating the required amount, consider how much of the normal herb you would use, and divide that by at least 10 as these extracts are concentrated. The Kava Root extract is safe to consume, but the amount of kavalactones in it is unknown. A typical dose would be 200-400 mg and the maximum recommended would be 1500 mg per day.
Kava or kava kava (Piper methysticum: Latin ‘pepper’ and Latinized Greek ‘intoxicating’) is a crop of the Pacific Islands. The name kava is from Tongan and Marquesan, meaning ‘bitter’; other names for kava include Ê»awa (HawaiÊ»i), Ê»ava (Samoa), yaqona or yagona (Fiji), sakau (Pohnpei), seka (Kosrae), and malok or malogu (parts of Vanuatu).
Kava is consumed for its sedating effects throughout the Pacific Ocean cultures of Polynesia, including Hawaii, Vanuatu, Melanesia, and some parts of Micronesia, such as Palau. To a lesser extent, it is consumed in nations where it is exported as a herbal medicine.
The root of the plant is used to produce a drink with sedative, anesthetic, and euphoriant properties. Its active ingredients are called kavalactones. A systematic review done by the British nonprofit Cochrane concluded it was likely to be more effective than placebo at treating short-term anxiety.
Kava is said to offer a mild high, and it is often used as a herbal supplement for those suffering from anxiety or insomnia. It is said to induce a state of happy unconcern, well-being and contentment, free of physical or psychological excitement. Kava soothes temperaments.
Despite its psychoactive effects, kava is not considered to be physically addictive and its use does not lead to dependency.
