Lavender brings peace, joy, and healing.
Description
Lavender oil is probably the best known of all the essential oils. It seems no medicine kit is complete without a bottle of Lavender. This is most likely due to the number of conditions that Lavender can assist, along with being an oil that is safe to use on children, adults and the elderly alike.
An evergreen, woody shrub, that grows to around a metre in height. Narrow, slender leaves with various shades of purple to blue coloured flowers. An ornamental version is available in whites and pinks flowers, though not suitable for extracting oil. The entire plant is highly aromatic. Lavender was originally endemic to Mediterranean countries and is now grown world-wide. The species of lavender grown is generally Lavandula angustifolia L. syn. officinalis. This grows best at 700-1200m altitude.
