$12.45 – $120.45
Description
Erythrina mulungu is a medicinal plant native to the cerrado and caatinga regions in northern Brazil.
Mulungu has been used by indigenous peoples in the Amazon for centuries as medicines, insecticides and fish poisons.
Tinctures, teas and decoctions made from mulungu bark are often used in Brazilian traditional medicine as a sedative, anxiolytic, to combat insomnia and to promote healthy sleep cycles.
Mulungu tea and mulungu tinctures are considered substantially stronger than preparations of more common medicinal herbs like Passiflora and Valerian.
Mulungu’s chemicals constituents includes a wide range of flavonoids and terpenes, and its main alkaloids responsible for its sedating effects are erythravine and (+)-11α-hydroxy-erythravine.
HOW TO MAKE MULUNGU TEA:
The average mulungu dose is 15g, or one tablespoon. Start with that, and adjust dosage according to your needs.
- Simply make a tea using one tablespoon of the powder with a few drops of lemon juice or vinegar.
- Simmer for 30-40 min, and filter with a coffee filter.
- It already tastes good on its own, but if you add honey it tastes even better!
HOW TO MAKE MULUNGU TINCTURE:
- Find a good glass jar with lid and fill it half way with mulungu powder.
- Add vodka, or any other high proof grain alcohol until the liquid level is at least 5cm (2″) above the powdered mulungu.
- Add a few drops of white distilled vinegar.
- Seal jar properly and shake two times per day during one month.
- When ready, filter the alcohol a coffee filter.
- The mulungu tincture can now be used as is, or can be left to evaporate in a windy place for a while to achieve a higher concentration (be careful with flames around alcohol).
