Description
Note: 20:1 means it takes 20kg of leaf to produce 1kg of extract.
These herbal extracts are ideal for adding to herbal teas, or other beverages, and can also be added to foods. When calculating the required amount, consider how much of the normal herb you would use, and divide that by at least 10 as these extracts are concentrated. The Lactuca Virosa extract is safe to consume, but the amount of active ingredients in it is unknown. A typical dose would be 125-250 mg and the maximum recommended would be 500 mg per day.
Lactuca virosa is a plant in the Lactuca (lettuce) genus, often ingested for its mild analgesic and sedative effects. It is related to common lettuce (L. sativa), and is often called wild lettuce, bitter lettuce, laitue vireuse, opium lettuce, poisonous lettuce, tall lettuce, great lettuce or rakutu-karyumu-so.
A latex which is called lactucarium can be derived from the extract of the stem secretions of Lactuca virosa. Wild lettuce extract, or lactucarium, has long been used to relieve pain. Lactucarium contains lactucin and lactucopicrin. They are bitter substances that act on the central nervous system to produce pain-relieving and sedative effects.
